Your Safety is Our Priority

Safety Always has priority at AFP GmbH

Operational disruptions in technical facilities can never be completely ruled out. However, AFP GmbH plans and operates its systems in a way that minimizes the likelihood of such incidents to the greatest possible extent. Through a wide range of safety measures, we ensure that a minor technical malfunction does not escalate into a serious incident. In addition to clear procedural guidelines, carefully tested safety components contribute significantly to this prevention.

Warnings and Information

In the event of an incident, the Lüneburg City Control Center will dispatch the necessary emergency services. The relevant authorities are also informed. Residents will be notified, if necessary, via loudspeaker announcements and/or radio broadcasts.

What is an incident?

Despite all safety precautions, operational disruptions can occur.
A disruption becomes an incident only when it poses a serious threat to human health or causes significant damage to the environment or property.
According to national and European regulations, many industrial operators are legally required to regularly inform the public about safety measures and what to do in case of such incidents.
As part of the Major Accidents Ordinance (12th BImSchV), this obligation also applies to AFP GmbH.

Which areas fall under the Major Accidents Ordinance?

AFP GmbH operates facilities for the production of disinfectants at its Lüneburg site.
In the process, we handle and store various hazardous substances, including water-polluting materials in quantities that bring us under the scope of the lower tier of the Major Accidents Ordinance.
A notification under §7(1) of the ordinance has been submitted to the competent authority.
The most recent on-site inspection in accordance with §16(2) No. 1 took place on September 1, 2023, conducted by the State Trade Supervisory Office of Lüneburg.

Inspection details can be obtained directly from the authority:

Potential hazards may arise from fires or explosions (e.g., smoke development, release of hazardous substances) or from damaged or leaking storage or transport containers.
Together with the competent authorities, an alarm and emergency response plan has been developed.

How to act in the event of an incident

Move crosswind when outdoors

A gas or smoke cloud spreads with the wind—leave the danger area immediately by moving perpendicular to the wind direction.

Avoid direct contact with chemicals

Do not inhale chemical vapors.

Seek shelter indoors

Do not stay outside. Close all doors and windows and turn off ventilation systems.

Help others

Warn your neighbors, bring children indoors, offer shelter to passers-by, and inform emergency services about any injured or vulnerable persons.

Follow instructions

Pay attention to loudspeaker announcements from emergency services and strictly follow their directions.

Turn on the radio

Information and updates about the incident, as well as all-clear messages, will be broadcast if necessary on regional radio stations (NDR 2, NDR 1 Radio Niedersachsen).

Keep phone lines clear

Do not block emergency lines with inquiries. Only make calls in case of real emergencies and avoid using mobile phones unless absolutely necessary.
